Great Things Going On Now
A great big thank you goes out to the Haskin Elementary Sunshine Committee for the great job they did on their Elf’s Attic project. On Friday December 7th community members had the opportunity to peruse the attic to pick out presents for their children, at no cost to themselves. Thank you Haskin Elementary School Teachers for spreading the Christmas spirit throughout the community!
I also want to thank Skoglund Middle School Math Teacher Linda Donaldson for the great job she did showing educators from around the Valley how the Bloomboard evaluation platform works. She did this when she was at the SB 191 training session in Alamosa last week.

Speaking of Bloomboard, Center High School Principal Kevin Jones and Skoglund Middle School Principal Carrie Zimmerman have been drafted by the Alamosa School District to explain to them how the system works this coming Thursday. Thank you Kevin and Carrie for sharing your expertise with our neighbors to the South!
On Friday we also held the first ever varsity basketball contests in our new gymnasium. We had a wonderful crowd and they were treated to some pretty exciting games.

The Past Week
This past week I travelled to Bayfield for a CASE regional principal meeting where I presented on how Center Schools is implementing the new teacher evaluation system. On Tuesday we conducted salary negotiations with the Center Education Association. On Wednesday I started my day in Denver for a school finance cost study professional judgment panel session. This is being done to figure out what is should cost to implement SB 191 and Colorado’s accreditation law. I swung through Springs on my way home Wednesday to conduct my teacher evaluation presentation for area administrators in that region. On Friday I was in Denver again for the Colorado Association of School Executives legislative priorities setting meeting. I made it back to Center in time to see the basketball games.
Big Things We Are Working On
We are currently in the process of conducting NWEA testing to measure how much our students have progressed since the beginning of the year. We test students through NWEA each year in August, December and May to monitor the progress of our student’s learning.
We are also working on a proposal for a Colorado Legacy Foundation Extended Learning Opportunities Grant. If awarded, this grant would allow the San Luis Valley to pilot blended learning opportunities for student using iPads in eight model classrooms.

Our Core Beliefs
Our second Core Belief states, “with our support ALL children can achieve at high levels and be successful in life.” Center Schools does this by understanding that what we do with students when they are in our care makes a difference in their learning. We don’t care what the backgrounds of our kids are. We don’t make excuses. We just teach them. We do this by planning and teaching quality lessons aligned to the state standards, by engaging students it the learning of these lessons, and by holding students accountable for academic growth.
The Week Ahead
On Monday the Center Schools administrative team will be meeting together to complete paperwork on mid-year teacher evaluations of all Center Schools instructors. Late in the day we will host a presentation from Apple about the many learning resources that are now available on the iPad.
On Tuesday I will be in Alamosa to attend the monthly San Luis Valley Superintendent’s Advisory Council meeting, in the morning then the regional elementary and secondary school principals meeting after Noon. On Tuesday evening we will also be holding a middle school band concert on campus.
On Wednesday I am supposed to be in Denver for a CASE, CASB, CEA Anchor Group meeting, though I am not sure I will be able to make it.
On Thursday I will be attending the 5th School Finance Technical Advisory Group meeting in the morning, before attending our monthly Board of Education meeting and Elementary Christmas Concert in the evening.
Thanks for listening once again. Have a great week!
