Great Things Going On
Though many of us were spending lots of time enjoying spring break this past week, many Center Schools employees were still on campus, on task, and working hard. Because of the timing of payroll director of finance Betty Casanova and the Center Schools business office staff had to come in to complete district payroll duties early in the week. Additionally, director of facilities Rich Brandt and his crew worked all week refinishing the middle-high hallway floors and doing a lot of outside work to prepare our beautiful grounds for the upcoming spring and summer. Meanwhile, director of technology Julio Paez and his staff, Teddy Garcia and Auscencio Najera spent a lot of time on campus tending to network and instructional technology tasks that are best worked on while we are not all in their way. I want to thank these folks for the work they do behind the scenes to make our jobs easier when it comes to educating our children!
One other great thing soon to be going on involves the Kiwanis Club of Center securing the help of nearly 50 regional Kiwanis members to conduct a Center Community Park cleanup and repair day! repair and renew many things out at the park. This past week Rich Brandt met with Kiwanis leaders to plan out the work that will be done for the benefit of the entire Center Community.
On a final note I would like to thank Center High School principal and athletic director Kevin Jones, and the many Center Schools staff members who pitched in to help, for doing a great job in hosting this year’s Center High School Track Invitational on Friday March 21st at the park. At virtually the same time Skoglund Middle School principal and athletic director Carrie Zimmerman and a large contingent from her staff hosted our annual middle school wrestling meet. Center was a busy place on March 21st, allowing the community to put its best foot forward once again, and both events went off without a hitch.

Big Things We Are Working On
While on spring break I spent a lot of time enjoying being with my family while also working on instructional director evaluations, measures of student learning documents, and with superintendents and lobbyists from around Colorado who are working to improving this year’s school finance act.
The Past Week
Though we were on spring break this past week I spent some time keeping up to date on emails received pertaining to my job and working on final Center Schools payroll preparation items. I also presented, along with 3 other superintendents, in a national webinar for eSchoolNews showcasing 2014 Tech Savvy Superintendent award winners. In doing so I was given the opportunity to share the educational technology success we have established here in Center with folks from all over the country. Last week I also attended a phone conference with Colorado Opportunity Coalition members who are working to support the legislature with information aimed at targeting additional school finance dollars to at-risk student populations, as is being requested by teachers, superintendents, and school board members from all over the state.
The Week Ahead
I am taking a personal leave day on Monday to address family matters. On Tuesday I will chair the Colorado Safe Schools Resource Center meeting in Denver. On Wednesday I will be back in Center to attend a Health Advisory Committee meeting at Noon and to take several Board of Education members on an instructional walk through of the district in the afternoon. Wednesday will end with a bullying prevention training for staff members in the late afternoon. On Thursday and Friday I’ll conduct a lot of office work, preparing for and conducting instructional director final evaluation meetings.
Thanks for listening once again.
