Recently in Denver, Center School District contracted counselor extraordinaire Katrina Ruggles was the opening speaker at a statewide meeting about the Individual Career and Academic Planning (ICAP) process. During this gathering of 600 people from all around the state Mrs. Ruggles showed a video produced by Center Schools flex teacher Stefan Welsh, with contributions from his high school video productions class, highlighting how we conduct our ICAP process in the Center School District. Katrina humbly reported, “despite my lack of speaking abilities the video was a tremendous hit!” Knowing Katrina, I have no doubt she delivered an outstanding message. This is the video.
Center Schools turnaround partner Lindamood-Bell is on the cutting edge when it comes to providing staff development and coaching services to schools in support of increased reading achievement for difficult to serve students. In fact, now they are even doing so by using robots! Because of this unique effort the district is the process of engaging with several other school districts in the San Luis Valley to further share out the reading success that has occurred at Haskin Elementary School. I encourage you to view this video to meet "Lucky," the Lindamood-Bell Instruction Robot! Because of this technology Lindamood-Bell's instruction teams can now visit multiple schools, around the world, in the same day, allowing for improved quality control with instruction and staff support at a tremendous reduction in cost. When viewing it see if you can find any of our Center Schools staff members and students!

The discussion was great and I learned a lot about the unique circumstances school districts of varying sizes are experiencing. In an effort to share this information the folks at CASB recorded and edited the session. I encourage each of you to view the 30 minute video that was produced as a result of the effort and to share it with others you think might be interested in an effort to spread the word about the daunting challenges we face.

With our new PK-12 facility beginning to take shape I thought I would remind everybody about what the landscape of Center Schools will look like by the end of the summer when our new school is completed and our old facilities have been removed. Through this video you can see a fly around of what the school district property will look like when the project is completed.
This video is compliments of Center High School Science and Math Teacher Daniel Newmyer and it describes the Scientific Research program available to all Center High School students.
This video is compliments of Amy Halbach’s 4th grade class. Her kids took on the responsibility to snap a picture of our construction site from her classroom each day during the fall semester. We combined these images with pictures taken over the summer from the Board Room as the construction project progressed and the end result is a nice time-lapse photography project that shows the construction of our new school from the end of May 2011 through Christmas 2011.
